How to Find a Reliable Caregiver

Now that you and your loved one have decided to hire an in-home caregiver, it is time to start searching for a reliable home care agency. There are many questions you should ask the agency. Here are some of them:

  • Are caregivers personally interviewed by the agency?
  • Are caregivers' references and employment history verified?
  • Are caregivers covered by professional liability insurance?
  • Are caregivers covered by workers' compensation insurance?
  • Are caregivers employed by the agency?
  • Are caregivers' skills tested or verified prior to employment?
  • Are caregivers nationally background checked?
  • Are caregivers E-verified with the Dept. of Homeland Security?
  • Are caregivers currently certified in CPR?
  • Are caregivers required to have a driver's license and automobile insurance?
  • Are caregivers supervised after being placed with a client?
  • Are caregivers Alzheimer's Association trained (if required)?

Once you have chosen a reliable agency, be sure to schedule an assessment with the agency and your loved one. They will then find suitable caregivers for you to interview.
