How to Find a Reliable Caregiver
Now that you and your loved one have decided to hire an in-home caregiver, it is time to start searching for a reliable home care agency. There are many questions you should ask the agency. Here are some of them:
- Are caregivers personally interviewed by the agency?
- Are caregivers' references and employment history verified?
- Are caregivers covered by professional liability insurance?
- Are caregivers covered by workers' compensation insurance?
- Are caregivers employed by the agency?
- Are caregivers' skills tested or verified prior to employment?
- Are caregivers nationally background checked?
- Are caregivers E-verified with the Dept. of Homeland Security?
- Are caregivers currently certified in CPR?
- Are caregivers required to have a driver's license and automobile insurance?
- Are caregivers supervised after being placed with a client?
- Are caregivers Alzheimer's Association trained (if required)?
Once you have chosen a reliable agency, be sure to schedule an assessment with the agency and your loved one. They will then find suitable caregivers for you to interview.
