World Senior Citizen Day
Back in 1988, former US President Ronald Reagan founded a day that would eventually be known under proclamation of the United Nations as ‘World Senior Citizen Day.’ This celebration of gratitude to seniors all over the globe occurs on August 21stof each year. It is set aside as a time to reflect upon and acknowledge the sacrifice and dedication of elders who have selflessly contributed to their families and societies all their lives.
As we all know, as we age, additional help or assistance within a variety of areas may be needed. Lucky for us, the National Council on Aging has compiled a very comprehensive reference website that is located at https://www.benefitscheckup.org/ This resource is a wonderful ‘one-stop shop’ for thousands of benefit programs that seniors can see if they qualify for. Almost 9 million individuals have already done just that and discovered more than 36 billion dollars in benefits for various programs such as medication, food, housing, utility, and income assistance plus much, much more. I highly encourage you to spend a few minutes on that website to discover what programs you could benefit from for yourself or the senior loved one in your life. It is definitely time well spent.
